Film: Moments in the Wilderness
Swedish photographer Magnus Lindbom released his first feature film Moments in the Wilderness on Christmas day. Over the past few years Lindbom has released several shorter videos of his time photographing the forests and mountains of various Swedish national parks, such as Sarek and Padjelanta.
Anyone who has watched these videos knows that the Swedish photographer exquisitely captures the solitude, drama and ethereal light that characterise the far north of Sweden. I purchased and watched Moments in the Wilderness a few days ago. You can buy the film directly from Lindbom’s site (it cost me £13 via Paypal), and watch it multiple times via a private link.
The film follows Lindbom over a year spent hiking, kayaking and skiing through Sarek and Muddus national parks, as well as Tjeggelvas nature reserve. It is entirely self-shot and clearly demanded a lot of travel and patience to capture these areas at their finest. Over a 59 minute run time Lindbom has crafted a beautiful visual meditation on the land and wildlife of the far north of Sweden.
Limited but poignant narration overlays video and images of grand scenery, interspersed with audio recordings of Elk, Ptarmigan and other wildlife. The pace is deliberately slow and quiet to reflect Linbom’s immersion in nature across all four seasons - it very much reminds me of ‘slow TV’.
I recommend the film for any lovers of mountain and wilderness environments, not just those in the far north of Sweden. You can view the trailer below.
